Autumn is my favorite time of the year. It is no longer stifling hot here
in the south and the foliage begins to change in October.

I love the colors of Autumn. The vibrant colors of red, bright orange,
deep browns, and bright yellows decorate the scenery. A ride though
the mountains is breath-taking.

Squirrels are gathering nuts and seeds to hold them over during the
cold winter months. Bears are eating all they can to live off the fat
they attain while they sleep the long sleep of winter. The woods are
quieter and one can almost hear the snow fall on dried leaves.

Our country celebrates Thanksgiving each November, we have a
great deal to be thankful for. I now live close to Jamestown, VA where
community, as we know it, first started here in America. It was not
easy for the settlers to create a new life here. They knew harshness
and deprivation where they came from but they could not have
imagined what their lives would be like here.

Many settlers died but they lay the foundation for the America we
know and love today.

Let us all be thankful for what we have and where we live. Let us all
pray for those who have much less and deserve just as much as we
do.
