These are two poems submitted by a very
gifted young woman.
Reading

Immobile
Perched in a muddle of down
And unaware of my surroundings
Drenched in lamplight
My eyes itch in protest
Though I dare not stir
Numbly immersed in its pages
The words lure me
Into their realm of fiction
Weightless of anxieties
No stress to encumber me
I float aimlessly
Leaving the confines of reality
Adrift in its sea of passages
My journeys are boundless
Like the infinite stars
Scattered erratically
Throughout the sheltering darkness
Too much to delve into all at once
A clap of thunder
Jolts me back to consciousness-
I've never left my seat.

My Window

The humidity obscures my view
with a thick layer of dew,
Lashing rain floods our miseries away,
Lightening cascades across the skies
Revealing the details of the shady silhouettes,
The fresh grass now sopping and muddy,
Smell its blades sweeping in the fierce gales,
The trees violently thrashing their pain away in a tantrum
Giving the impression of a kinder gardener in a grocery store,
The gray skies darken with the ever present
Looming clouds of burden,
The roar of thunder
Like a lion defending its territory
Does not make idle threats,
While the howling winds carry birds off flight,
Looking out my window
I see nature at her finest.
